The Crags is one of the most popular hikes in the Pikes Peak region, especially in winter. A new parking lot was installed, as well as improvements made at the trailhead and campground. The road in winter, however, is only plowed to a point about a quarter mile past the Mennonite camp, leaving an additional mile or so of unplowed road to reach the new parking lot (also unplowed). This stretch of road can be treacherous, and cars often get stuck and stranded. Who is responsible for maintaining the road to The Crags trailhead?
In the past two years, I havent shoveled a bit of snow in the winter. For the past two summers, I havent put a bit of work into my garden. Yet I still have the best looking yard and garden on the block, and my son did it all with an old ATV and utility plow. And anytime the neighbors come to ask me how I got my son to be so helpful around the yard, I simply point at that old ATV and say Get one of those and youll see for yourself. After arriving in late November, we found ourselves settled right in time for the winters first big snowstorm. And boy, did it ever come down. After three days of constant blizzard conditions and over five total feet of snow, we found ourselves trapped behind 200 yards of snow-packed driveway. The thought of attempting to shovel that huge area was overwhelming, until I recalled seeing a snow plow fitting for the old ATV in the shed. Hoping this might do the trick, I tracked out to the shed to see if I could put it together.Be willing to make some sacrifices if money is a real issue. For instance, instead of eating in an expensive restaurant each night, eat cheaper fast food, or make sandwiches in your room. Borrow equipment from friends instead of renting it. Join a group for lessons instead of taking private lessons. Do not stay at a lodge, stay at a motel farther away from the slopes if necessary. There are numerous ways that you can cut down on the expense of your ski trip.Several services like WHOIS are purchased to hide the identity of or offer privacy to the website owner/operator. Is it a real estate firm, a spammer, a sales office of some sort or what? This may seem like a stupid question, but, where are the springs in Colorado Springs? We have seen the springs in Manitou Springs, but were there any for Colorado Springs? For example, the Pike and San Isabel National Forests, Cimarron- Comanche National Grasslands, which are officially grouped together, have nearly 3 million acres. Pike alone has 1.1 million acres.ANSWER: In short, no one maintains the road in the winter when it is typically snowed in. The parking lot and The Crags are on Pike National Forest land.- James RobertsA couple years ago, the family up and moved to Colorado. And not just any part of Colorado the Rocky Mountains. We found a nice house with a great yard in a small community called Evergreen, about 25 miles west of Denver in the foothills of the Rockies. To our surprise, the house came with a little bonus: A big wooden shed on the property containing an old ATV and a bunch of accessories to go along with it.The first maneuver you will learn is called the plow, or snow plow. This is a technique that is done by literally using your skis as a snow plow. You make the back of the skis slowing move outwards, away from your body by applying pressure and this stops you. You guide yourself on skies by bending your knees and leaning in one direction or another, depending on which way you want to go. All of these techniques can be learned in one hour, even if you have never been on a pair of skis in your life.- Dave B.- JPPI read the question (from reader Regis) regarding how to contact the website operator of stratmoorhills.net. Other private owners plow their portions of the road.ANSWER: Not stupid at all. There were at least three springs in Monument Valley Park but a flood in 1935 wiped them all out.Learning to ski is really quite easy. Most resorts have a ski school on the premises, and lessons are reasonably priced. Group and private lessons are usually available. It is a good idea, however, to schedule an appointment before you arrive at the resort. This will ensure that you can start learning to ski the very first hour of your vacation. The beauty of skiing is that after you have learned how to snow plow, and how to guide yourself on the skis, you are ready to ski! Get on the lift, head up the mountain, and give it a try. Control your speed by snow plowing and go slow at first. When you want to pick up some speed, draw your skis back in to pick up a little speed, then push them back out into the plow position to control that speed.
